Flash from the Queen!
Posted by Jrock83 on Monday, February 18, 2019 9:56 PM

I just started painting the old revell 1:570 Queen Mary. I'm a fan of old kits with flash, as they are fun to make look good from too much flash from the mold process lol. Anyway, this is a labor of love as I love the history of the ship but this flash removal is turning into a career lol. Has anyone ever done this version or run into obstacles while trying to get it complete? Luckily, the white that the parts are molded in looks good so I won't need to paint white on any designated parts. FYI, no I'm not taking the easy way out and painting her grey as she was when she was a troop transport Pirate

Nice kit, treat her like the queen. Paint the white white.

I need to build it myself. Have some personal connection with that ship. I’ll be watching this.

For sure, Im fascinated with it as it's unique w the 3 funnels let alone all the history. I would have loved to have seen it before it was gutted upon arrival at permanent docking in LB. I was lucky and found it at Brookhurst Hobbies a couple years ago. I went to buy the 1911 version of Revells Olympic but someone got it b4 I could get it.

Plus it's the closest I'll ever get to be on the Titanic as it was when she was afloat. I can't imagine what it was like seeing the Titanic sink, so awful. You really get the scope of it if you are on the Queen Mary, a ship of that size going down. RIP all who perished.

Yes, QM is a beautiful ship to visit and explore. I can only imagine what her bowels looked like at the end of her liner days. All that machinery gone now. I believe that one of her screws is displayed at the LA Museum of Science and Industry. At least that’s what I remember. It’s been a few years since I have been there.

T.B.,

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind, I bought a paint pen for all the small things that need to be painted white. I'll paint the top of the hull white now that you mention the yellowing probability down the road.

The white will make a good primer and make the follow on colors more distinct.

I got lucky and found it at my LHS as it was returned as all the part minus the hull halves we're in one big cellophane bag. Luckily no parts were scratched and the hull halves are perfect for being loose in the box. I'm crossing my fingers she'll come out looking like when she docked permanently in LB. No blue awnings on her either lol.
