Estate Sale treasure- J. Bliss Co. catalog

That's really interesting, especially seeing the prices listed in it 

Wow... what a great find!! I've got to start hitting estate sales, antique shops and flea markets this year. 

Sure do remember the Bliss catalog.  Also the A.J. Fisher one.  I believe ship modeling was a bigger hobby in days gone by.  I remember when Popular Mechanics used to publish scratch projects in their magazines, and sold plans for the projects.

    I remember that catalogue too . Now there was a hardware store in Buffalo N.Y. That had the greatest selection of Lionel and models of all types .I bought my Last Wood model there before my Navy time.I added to my Lionel trains after two enlistments and got into model cars.Alas ! That place no longer exists .They had their own local Catalogue too !

I also remember that Model Expo's catalog used to have a lot more fittings than they do today.

 I also find that a few hobby shops in this area still do carry a few wood ship kits, though the proprietors say sales are glacial.

I have worked in hobby shops part and fulltime on/off since the late 80's. I am big in RC planes and boats. I helped open a Hobbytown shop locally about 8 years ago. I observed wood rc plane kits that sat on shelves untouched for years. Around Christmas a few of the guillows balsa kits would sell. I only recall selling one wood ship kit and it was a special order. The wood ship kits on shelves, I think are still there. So for sure glacial is a good term. All the other hobby shops near me closed, except the hobbytown, he owns 3 so is very good at how to keep things going right. I try to buy all my supply type stuff from there, his prices on glues, paints, tools etc.. same as online.
