Carriers -Or did I do that?
Posted by Tanker - Builder on Monday, March 11, 2019 9:32 AM

Hi Ya'll ;

    Remember my conversation the other day ?Where'd that hull come from ? I remembered something I had Checked on and then thought about those hulls again .

    When you go to Flea markets and Yard sales  look for a totally messed up Texaco Tanker . I don't know the scale but as a subject it is perfect .

   Think back to W-W-2 . How many early Carriers were conversions from Cruisers and then when they needed more just to deliver the planes from here to there they used converted Tankers .

 Just think , A Transport system and Avgas station all in one ! And a perfect way to save for another life , an iconic toy from Yesteryear ! T.B.

Interesting idea. Those toys are costy though. Mine had the company name and plimsoll marks raised, and it's not exactly sandable plastic. Probably would have to be plated.

Hawaiian Pilot (C-3) to a Bogue class CVE.

Cleveland class cruiser to Independence class CVL.

How about Yamato into Shinano?

Or Trumpeter CV-3 Saratoga into a Lexington class battlecruiser.

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hi "G";

      I didn't have to plate mine .Not with plastic anyway. I used standard typing paper to make my plates and good old Ambroid glue to stick it in place . The upperworks were from toothpicks and plastic cross shaped Swizzle Sticks !

 A friend's dad ( who owned a English Sports car dealership) saw it and wanted it . Well , He gave it to his dad .The planes were carved balsa and carved balsa blocks .I did it probably when I was twelve and had just read a boy's adventure book on one .They had all these drawings inside so that's the referrence I used .

  His dad asked me if I got an allowance and I had to admit my dad being a Fisherman, didn't have funds for that. He gave me $20.00 and said if I would wash a car a week he would give me $20.00 bucks each time .But , They better be clean !

 That's how I got my first Large Lindberg Sport Fishing Boat .Gees there were tons of them in Miami at the time .I just had to have one .I don't remember how it turned out , But , I do remember i was proud of it .I made it look Like Uncle Al's boat !
