Boat davits for KORMORAN
Posted by retdfeuerwehr on Saturday, April 13, 2019 2:48 PM

I'm presently working on the 1/700 resin NNT model of German aux. cruiser Kormoron, and a fine kit it is. However, studying the lifeboat davits they look like the Navy Welin Gravity davits, but I don't think the DKM used davits like that. Detailed photos of the vessel don't show much at all...does anyone have any idea what these davits should be, or at least the most common davits used by the Kriegsmarine?  Thanks in advance

I can't answer your question, but would love to see some progress pictures and the finished job.Really fascinated by the secret raiders and would love to see a 1/350 one in plastic

Likewise can't address Kormoran specifically...but just a thought. Since the Wellin davit was patented around the turn of the century, and in widespread use in the merchant shipping industry worldwide, it's not inconceivable that Steiermark--from which the Kormoran was converted--had them to start. It strikes me that the KM wouldn't necessarily have changed them out, if that were the case

Tojo, I scratchbuilt a 1/350 Atlantis, and a 1/350 Pinguin - quite a lot of work. If I can figure out how to transfer cell phone images to my PC, I'll post some pics.
