Don Staufer got me interested in aircraft carriers, & I have never built one in the thousands of models I have built. Now I have the 3 Midway carriers in 1/700 & the Revell 1/485 Yorktown that nino,Jim, gave me. Also I have a i/485 Hornet & will get the CV6 Enterprise in 1/485/ I love that scale around 1/500. That are nice to work with.
I had a friend in school who joined the navy at 16 right after Pearl Harbor & was on the Yorktown at Midway. He made it ok thru the war. Kids could swim where I grew up.
Here is my Yorktowm. It starts with the wood I put in the hull to screw it down with. & I used brass for my cross spars on the plastic masts & prop shafts.
This is just setting together to check fit of the deck. That was the hardest part of a simple build glueing it togeteher. I did use 1/350 PE railings & they looked in scale.
Everything just setting together , no gglue on the deck yet. I did paint every thing before I glued the deck on.
These I just took & it is nearly finished in about 2 weeks. I still have the lifeboats & outer hull stairs to do & some more flags & details.
Thats all for now, but it was another break from the rigging on the Victory. I will do more of these, I even got the new Academy 1/600 Enterprise coming.
