Jim - thanks for the kind words. Wonder if that squirrel was photoshopped? I'll bet he wishes it were!

Cheers, Jake

Hi again Jake.

 Three things...

As previously said, your barrel solution was nicely implemented.

Great job getting that wood deck on and aligned perfectly.

Just enlarged your Signature/Squirrel icon...

         That's gotta hurt.

                  Thanks for that extra "entertainment".

                           Jim.

And now I realize that I definitely should have secured the super deck to the main deck MUCH earlier before adding the small stuff. Here is how I have addressed the problem of getting the deck to sit until the glue sets...hopefully..  Confused   But I still have some work to get the prow more flush.

Next - I spent way too many hours detailing the shop's boats, including PE, wooden thwarts, paint and .... hope it pans out.

Well, a few days ...weeks into the build and I have some things going.

First, here is what I did with the PE hose reels.

Next I saw a FSM article that showed tiedowns for the halyards that I hope to be able to place. Stick out tongue  and you can see one of the hose reels in place.

After a few full days, here is the result of one of the five turrets. Now on to the decks and other details, masts, etc.

After all my work, I am glad to see that maybe someone else may not have to struggle as I did, but it was good work so I guess I put enough extra $$$ int the project already.

Mike - thanks for that plug and I hope I can do justice to my model as you have done with the 1915. WOW, and great rigging.

Jake,

I should have seconded what a fine job you're doing on the 1907 version. I'm interested to see how it turns out when you've finished and to make note of the differences between your kit and the one I built - the 1915 kit.

Steve,

No worries mate. It's summertime here so I've been doing my usual hiking and, in addition, I've been taking a few lessons .. albeit expensive ones for this 76 year old retiree Big Smile.

Steve, I think I can post a hot link to a short video of my being the PIC of a Cessna 150 a couple of weeks ago. I just can't figure out how to post the video itself. Anyway, it was my third lesson ... my CFI let me take off and then she had me do some turns over a local correctional institution here in Salem, Oregon. In the following video you might notice I lost about 90 feet in the turn but brought it right back up.  I have two more lessons this coming Monday and Wednesday mornings but I think that's all I'll have money for. I'll never get to the point where I land the plane ... much less solo.

Well;

Many who do small windows know Krystal Klear is our friend, Right? Besides where would " N " scale modelers be without it?

Don - in my case, I painted the hull after assemblying its 2 halves but before laying the deck on. I painted the deck before putting down the wood so that I would not have to paint again.

So I put the liquid film inside before laying the deck and thus did not need to do any masking. Hope that makes sense.  Stick out tongue

Ah, of course.  I feel dumb for not thinking of that!

Jake,

Your Dreadnought is looking great so far. I have one sitting on a shelf that’s been calling to me to finish her for a few years now..... I got hung up on how to work out the metal barrels attachments. Great job on your turrets by the way, which brings me to my solution that I broke down and purchased from Shapeways.

https://www.shapeways.com/product/VRKXP5XEH/1-350-hms-dreadnought-12-quot-mkx-guns-x5?optionId=64518899&li=marketplace

3D printed and at a reasonable price. I was hesitant to post this but since yours came out so cool that I thought this might help someone else down the road.

Thanks for the inspiration to get a shelf queen down and dusted off. Keep up the great work and I‘ve pulled up a chair and a drink if you don’t mind.

Here’s a link to my stalled WIP if you’re interested.

Jake,

I just want to put a plug in for another free image hosting site ... Postimage.org. I originally began posting images to this site using Photobucket and then, after the debacle, switched to Flickr. Now that Flickr's been taken over, I'm using Postimage.org. Seems to work for me.

After drilling the holes out, I have always waited till the hull was painted and put in liquid window material from the front.  It does sound easier to do it from the rear. But, for you who do it that way, do you paint the hull halves first, then do the seam afterwards, or do you have some way to mask the tiny windows?

Another duh moment as I should have painted the PE piece dark gray before adding it and saving all that taping

Anyway, here is the jig I used to bend those 2 stanchions.

In all, took about 2 days on those main guns and I still have the small guns and 2 railings to finish them.

Scott - thanks for the feedback. I will try to keep the thread moving in the build. Right now, I am drilling out the 26 tiny guns for the replacement barrels as well as working on the large guns which do not have any locating marks on them for the housing openings. As mentioned in the FSM article, I am using drilled sprue to secure them in place at the proper angle and will add epoxy to complete. Pictures to follow.

Cheers, Jake

thanks for the help. I paid the $20 for a year.

I also use Image Shack and really like it.  Its well worth the $20.

I will be following you on this build.  I accidently got sent the wooden deck for the 1/700 scale kit and plan to build it someday.

Well, live and learn LOL. That's nothing to the mess ups I've done.

I love Imageshack. They have never done me wrong. A few years back they had a small problem and lost a few picks of their members but were able to retrieve them.  No issues since. The best thing that I like is you can upload to different sizes from thumbnail to large, or can put in your own dimensions. I usually upload "Medium"

So I could not find photoimage.org - think the site is for sale??

So this is my first try with Image Shack.  Kind of a test     Surprise

[/URL]

I have added the welded ribs that are pointed out in FSM October 2015 article by Bill Plunk.

But I did not use or see in my photos more than 12, so thought that was enough. Also, should definitely done this BEFORE painting the hull. Duh.   Embarrassed

photoimage.org is the one I use, because photobucket was such a chore to use, and I could not get it to work right. When using photoimage.org, I use the direct link under share, and here I use 600x400 in the size box. Hope that helps.

Ziggy

So far, I have not been able to ID any kit reels so we shall see. BTW, your Price of Wales looks outstanding.

Thanks Jake, you should just be able to shave off, or leave off, the kits reels and install the PE ones. It doesnt look like there are any instructions for placement so that's what I'd do.
