where do you get the idea that the Lexington class was a mix of battleship/carrier which it never was? is it because of the 4 twin 8"/55 gun mounts which are heavy cruiser guns not battleship's?
Thanks all, want to backdate to Pre 1942 upgrade so 1940 era with stained decks and colorful air wing - when it was a mix of battleship/carrier. I will check out model monkey thanks for the help!
A real block to this conversion in years back was coming up with the air wing. Modelers would convert F4F's to F3F's.
No longer a problem with the Trumpeter sets.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Irish3335, backdate to what time period because if want to use battleships' turrets means backdating the model as being built as a battlecruiser? the problem with that is the ship never got to the point of completion with having the turrets installed before being converted to an aircraft carrier.
Model Monkey makes some 3D printed 8-inch guns for the Lexington and Saratoga. See model-monkey.com
Model Monkey also makes replacement funnel and island sets to backdate a Lexington to the 1925 to 1935 or 1936 to 1940 periods
Hi all,
happy forced stay at home to all (every modelers dream!) looking to do a backdated Lexington and I know there are no more Yankee Model Works kits available - anyone have any ideas? Use a battleship kit with the correct turrets? Anyone have a spare kit to sell? Will pay! Thanks for help
