Continuing on with the rest of the air group I have the rest of the Kates and Zeeks assembled and painted. I'll next add some weathering and then clear coat before decals.

Love to be there to see how it goes, good luck.  You can never tell what a judge will do.  Sometimes I have seen them go through tech orders to compare cammo patterns against a persons work, even though the real aircraft never follows the pictures exactly.

Once again, good luck.

Yeah, as technically correct as I'm trying to be there may be something I'm missing or there may be a fact I know that the judges are ignorant of and ding me on. Such as the Japanese opened certain port holes and rotated the opening with others even during battle to keep ventilation going. Or that the IJN officers wore blue instead of white during the winter.

Thanks Steve.

Would this be a gaggle of Kates or a murder of Kates?

Mopar Madness

I think this is a grand prize winner winner here!

We'll see. You know judges. Not getting my hopes up.

I will be taking the Olver Hazard Perry someone got me for last years SS, the Kirishima that's already won a few, my AT-ST, my sunken Zero and maybe the Tamiya Swordfish....somethings gota win something one would think.

I was thinking of entering the Akagi as a vignette since it's showing an historic event.

Thanks John.

This weekend I started the last 23 planes. I ground out all of the Kates and installed the interiors. The fues walls are so thin that there are some filling that needs to be done. I's going to try sprue goo to see if that holds up better than filler.

These are the first Kates with their weapons.

Well Now;

I don't feel so bad about building Grated walkways on my 1/400 ship model all over the place. Those little planes look like they mean business, Great job!

They look more mean with bombs attached.

Thanks guys,

Chris, I used hairspray.

through an airbrush? Wondering how you got such control. Dang those are sooo nice.

No, I held onto the planes with gloved hands ans sprayed the hairspray. Then airbrushed them. Then used water to make the chipping as usual using a pointed q-tip

Those are beautiful. The wear looks real on that tiny scale. How did you do the chipping on those? That would be neat to know!

Thanks so much guys!

I worked hours on the planes and have the 12 done where I like them. Some have maintenance personnel in the cockpit monitoring the gages and other tasks. I'm missing the bombs which I'll build up tonight. Going on week three for these aircraft. Hopefully I'll speed up some.

I added some prop spin both idle and running at a higher RPM.

I'm confused; why did it take 12 Kate's to carry one torpedo?

Yes, the torpodos were VERY heavy

I finished the smoke.

One of those repurposed AP shells/bombs was found when raising the West Virginia.  That might be part of it.  Pic shows the nose cone missing, and none of the fins, just as it was found in the ship.

Thanks guys, I had thought that as well when I took the pics. I'll get some smoke on it tonight. I'm going to show it at the local Hobby Town contest this Saturday, no planes or crew. I'll tell them to keep the cover on so some courious little guy doesn't break something off.

I used to break all of my older brother's models when I was too young to build them myself. The last one I showed to him (when I was in Dallas) he broke off the landing gear. I told him I deserved that.

OMG that's hilarious and cruel at the same time! What a big brotherDevil
