To begin with, based on the nautical rules of the road, you will have the red & green port and starboard nav lights (mnemonic: port wine is red).  These are visible bow to +/- 120 deg. Then there is the stern light (one white) with 240 degree visibility(IIRC).

Mast head truck light white, 360 visibility.

Some ships operated a wake light, a low angle blue light to illuminate the wake so following ships in formation could see it to avoid collision.   Research into IJN practices is needed

Modern carriers have drop lights which extend the landing alignment over the stern   Again research to period IJN practices

Lighting an AC

I was psyched to add tiny lights to a commission ship build but the client changed his mind. I have my own big Akagi to build and wondering if I can add lights to it. Not sure what kind and where they'd be located on an active WW2 IJN carrier other than red lights in the bridge and w/in the deck elevators.

I assume more lights would be on and used when a carrier were in friendly waters, which is fine with me. No point in wiring it for just 2 lights. And yes, I could try fiber optics for really small flush-mounted lights. Thanks for any tips
