trumpeter 1/200 bismarck

      Are the Ports molded like that? Or did you open them?

I opened them TB , the kit also comes with PE to go around them .

how come your bio ,  says you've only been a member for a year .

I'll be following this build since I just bought and will soon receive the Trumpeter 1/350 Bismarck. I'll have to set 6 month aside for that build when I get to it.

If I recall Andy's Hobby Headquarters first look video correctly, the lower bow section is a separate piece from the rest of the hull. Is your 1/200 scale hull the same sort of two piece hull?

Steve... Be careful on the PE.  What you have on so far will make doing the porthole surrounds a little harder to do.  But doing well with it so far

TB had to re-register after one of the site breakdowns.

steve , good to hear from you mate , the hull in 1/200 , is in one piece , but it has a little bit at the bow you glue on , I don't know why it is like this .

goldhammer , cheers mate . I decided to go this way so as to not have any glue marks when I paint , I just hope my fat fingers don't do any damage . I have started putting on the porthole surrounds . it's not a very good pic , sorry  .

it's the zvezda black pirate ship bob , getting a bit dusty now , but I think it suit's the image 

as a side note  , this extra kit comes with the bismarck , it's a 1/200 showing the workings of the main turret . it was a fun build .

finally able to get some paint on , lot more to do , but it's a start .

I need some help , the wood deck is too one colour , it is also darker in real life , has anyone got any suggestions how too weather it please , what colours would you use ? , I want to retain the wood look but not as stark , thank's in advance guy's .

       Now that's the kind of stuff I glom onto ,Turret and Magazine, awesome!. I would like to see an engine room like that ! Oh, on the deck. I am doing the 1/200 Arizona and I had the same problem. What I did, was use the base color and then did dot filters going from the Bow to the Stern. Not " Planky" looking, But less boring!

       I used the Last four canisters of my dwindling stock of Humbrol original "Deck Bleached Teak" as my base T.B.

TB , I have never used a dot filter , can you do it with acrylic paint ?

also the general way to do it , do you thin the paint first ?

do you put a gloss coat on first ?

looked up dot filters on utube , had a go , this is the result , not as plain .

started work on some of the PE , this is one of the catapults . needed a good lie down after this , didn't realise their was two of them . 

still on the PE kick , the cranes are done , looking at the photos , they could be better , but at the moment it's the best I can do .

It sometimes takes the patience (endurance - persistence) of Job to put together complex PE ... you're doing a fine job!

Where will you display the finished model?

The cats and cranes are way better than my fumble fingers could turn out. 

Deck looks good too.

re- my last post, do not use double sided tape and PE together , I am very lucky as I had 2 sets , the kit one's were better as they allowed you to see through them a bit oh well ,

started the funnel , still a lot to do , trying to work out how to paint .

Nice pe work on the funnel. Everything must feel like a kit on it's own in this scale? 

thanks mongoose , very true . thats the approach I have been taking , each little bit to make up a whole .

wasn't sure what these were , and a bloke on another forum informed me they the plane hangers .

ready for paint , a small railing is missing from one , it was just too fragile , might have a myself .

been trying to learn how to solder , was absolutely hopeless . saw a thing about solder paste , what a difference . so easy , will pattersen , also suggested a little cigar lighter to heat up even better he suggest's . 

Looking great. I hope my 1/350 turns out this good! 

Soldering is hard. That's a good looking seam there for sure. Much sturdier part that way as well. May try that cigar lighter idea as the little torch i bought tends to blow the solder away lol
