U-boat conning tower cables
Posted by djrost_2000 on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 9:34 PM
Getting ready to finish a type IXc u-boat and wondering what color the cables that connect the bow and stern to the conning tower should be. Are they rusty steel? Or were they painted the grey of the hull color?

Thanks in advance,

DJ

Sam,

The scale is 1/200. The kit is by Nichimo. I would think the cables would probably be painted grey as well. Anyone else out there who can confirm or deny that the cables should be grey?

Thanks,

The steel cables were not normally painted, but were rubbed down with oil or paraffin to keep corrosion away. Painting cables made them hard to handle and inspect for problems.
Grey/black would be my colour choice.

Bruce and Sam,

Thanks for the replies. Will probably color the cables a dark grey steel color with some rust spots.

Thanks,

Correction: the manufacturer of the kit is Nichimoco, not Nichimo.
