I do them a little differently. After the sides are folded up I slip the stairs under the thinnest finger of the etchmate so that only the bottom most stair tread is sticking out. Then I take a modified exacto chisel blade that I ground down to fit between the rails and just catch the exposed edge of the tread and very gently pry it up and roll it over into position. Loosen the etchmate and slide the stairs down until the next tread is exposed and do the same thing. Work your way down tread by tread.

Raise the handrails by folding into a U-shape.

Since you have a tool, clamp one handrail side into the jaw.  With a pair of fine-point tweezers grasp the stair tread and gently twist to make the tread level (+/-) with horizontal.  Work to bottom or bottom to top.  I've generally had no problems erecting the treads on inclined ladders.

Need Help with PE Stairs

Hi All,

I'm doing the Trump Hood with WEM PE. I'm having a devil of a time with the treads on the stairs. I use an Etchmate for the railing fold, but pushing through the treads just makes a mess of the stairway. I use a No. 11 blade to gently push out the tread, but I can't seem to get it done cleanly.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

 Steve
