You can find additional 1/400 aircraft by Arii, and I think they were available online at Trident Hobbies.. They are not as good as the new Revell aircraft that come in the kit. I am working on that same model right now, and I want to model the Big E as she appeared in the late 70's. I highly recommend Starfighter decals deck markings - Mark has a set for the 1/400 kit - VERY complete. I've been using PE from Tom's modelworks for 1/400 hatches and railings. Gold Medal models has a 1/400 generic set with railings and other great details - I may still buy one to use on this kit. In any event - good luck!

IF you want to update the BigE to what she looks like now, your first stop should be the Navy News website - http://www.navy.mil/view_photos_top.asp has a ton of photos since the Enterprise just completed a deployment. Just type "Enterprise" into the Search box at the top of the page.  I say IF because at that odd scale, your chances of finding aftermarket goodies like aircraft and deck vehicles are just about zero, and what's an aircraft carrier without aircraft? The size of that model is going to be impressive in and of itself; my first instinct would be to just build it as is and then use it as a battering ram to run over all the other R/C ships in the pond.

well thanks .i found out it helpful. i just got the box today and there is very little detail for the middle decks but out side is really nice and clean...as for the jets it comes with a modern jet pack updated ...but one question..or maybe 4 or so..lol....the mid island on the deck is not what it looks like in the pictures it has this nasty looking radar dome thing it looks like a honet comb ..should i just rid of this and start with the photo-eched stuff that i am going to put up top??and the glass on the real one is trans jade green do u think i should fiber-optic them green?? or should i rebuild them out of clear plastic's??i see your point on the people sizes bummer kinda but know knows..what i can find out there in the world of modeling...thanks all for your help..THANKS ED....i dont know you but thanks to you man!!!!nice to meet!!!

No aftermarket deck vehicles in 1:400 scale.

You may choose to use 1:350 scale detail items on the kit, but they will appear to be 1/8th too big.  A rail which should come to the waist will appear to be coming to the chest.   A 6-foot figure would appear to be a giant.   Details which were designed to fit a 1:350 scale kit would be grossly oversize and would not fit. 

 

 

thanks all,i was expectiond something more but its still going to be a first and fun boat for me and my boy, plus adding lites and the r/c will be fun, still need to find mini propellers for the drive and other stuff for stering, but any way do you have that link to 1/400 aircraft? and do they have any people and other on deck stuff for 1/400???we really cant wait ,the kits being tracked by fed ex's tracking number..cool stuff

The model represents the as-launched Enterprise, with the bee-hive island.

The kit was originally released in the mid-60s by Aurora.  Monogram got the Aurora molds when Aurora folded and the kit was re-released uner the Monogram label.    Later when Monogram and Revell merged,  Revell got access to the molds.  The kit has been released under the Revell/USA as well as the Revell/Germany labels.   It is the same kit -- with few, if any, updates.  It is prime 1960s state of the art.

Bert Kinsey in his Detail & Scale book on the USS Enterprise called the Aurora/Monogram/Revell Enterprise the second-best model in that scale.   There were only two.   The other was the Otaki (now Arii) kit.   It was head & shoulders better.

There are no dedicated aftermarket sets for the 1:400 scale Enterprise.  There are several 1:400 PE sets which can cobbled together to begin to fill the bill.  No modern aricraft are available.
