I just picked up the '43 version of Dragon's Scharnhorst.  Don't ask me why....maybe because it had sat on the shelf at the LHS for over a year and a half and I had the coin....

Looking at the bagged sprues (and there are plenty of them) nice crisp molding.  Didn't dig to the bottom for the hull.  1300 parts.....  and some PE included.

I'm thinking of getting the 41 version myself. But still waiting on the Zeppelin at the minute.

As a building of mainly German subjects, i feel it would be a bit cheeky to complain about a lack of kit subjects. But a 41 Eugen would be nice.

Going to order the Zeppelin out from Squadron in the next couple of weeks - they have it on special for around 127.00 USD.

Hi Rick,

Hasegawa Models has a great Gambier Bay in 1/350. I.m about 2/3 done with mine. There are several PE upgrade kits availble for it as well. It is a little pricey.

In reading all the posts from Nov 2007 it looks like many of the requests for 1/350 scale ships have been Granted! (ie: Texas, Graf Zeppelin, etc...)

However... I want a Plastic 1/350 scale of the nuclear "Spook" sub

USS Seawolf (SSN-575)Special projects

Anyone have any rumors?

It's nice to see an American like you interested in and mentionimg Aussie ships like the Canberra Class LHD and the Hobart Class Destroyer. I love building model ships, most of which are from the US, but as an Aussie I would die for a proper Canberra Class LHD and Hobart Class in 1/350!

Even though these ships have been out for a few years, I don't believe any Model Kit company has made kits of these yet, (at least not in my preferred scale) unfortunately...

Hopefully it wont take them 10 years to make kits of these ships as that would disappoint me greatly...

Would love to see some US Coast Guard ships to replace the handful of random box scale 50 year old molds...

- A Treasury class 327’ Cutter. The class served from 1936 to 1986. The Revell box scale Campbell/Taney was molded in 1957!

- Wind- class Icebreaker.  Options include WW2 USN and USSR service, and decades of post-war USCG service.

- Hamilton class 378’ High Endrance Cutter. Entered service in the 60s, the class is finally being phased out this decade.

Other subects:

-A WW2 Attack Transport, to replace the box scale Revell flat bottomed kit from the 50s.

- A Cleveland class CL.

- Ships from the “Great White Fleet” era. I’d love a Connecticut class Battleship (Conn, Louisiana,Vermont, Kansas, Minnesota, and New Hampshire.)

Orange Hobby makes a 1/700 scale Canberra in their Blue Series.

They are well done ships.

I build a few 1/700 when it is the very last resort as I MUCH prefer 1/350.

Here's the link to the Orange Hobby 1/700 HMAS Canberra, L02.  Hope you really enjoy it:

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/orange-hobby-n07-115-380-hmas-canberra-l02--1102775

Also you can get a 3D print of the HMAS Hobart from Dutch Fleet Miniatures at Shapeways.  I have purchased several of their 1/350 scale models.  They are a little spendy and I end up adding railing and more detailed equipment, but I have gotten some 1/350 scale ships that I could find no place else.  For example the latest Russian FFG, the Gorshkov class, also the German F125 class Baden Wuetenburg, and the Type 055 new Chinese cruiser...all in 1/350 scale.

Here's the link to their 1/700 Shapeways/Dutch Naval Miniatures HMAS Hobart...about $45 (US).

https://www.shapeways.com/product/3BESYEJNC/hobart-class-1-700?optionId=41638246&li=marketplace

They also have a 1/700 HMAS Canberra...but spendy:

I would like to see more canadian ships. Revell did the snowberry, but everything else is expensive resin models that I've seen. (I might be wrong?) We need more Canadian ships in 1/350 or larger!

In addition to the Huron, Trumpeter also makes several other Tribals (Eskimo, Zulu) which can be the basis for RCN ships.  http://jproc.ca/cta/

Mirage Hobbies makes several Flower-class corvettes in 1:350 injected plastic.

How about ships THEY SHOULD NEVER OFFER AGAIN!!!

My list:

Iowa Class, any scale

Fletchers

another carrier (just change the hull number, presto! a NEW release)

Bismarcks

Hoods

Yamato's in any scale

Friggin' American PT Boats, the most over rated naval craft of all time, you'd think from all the hoopla they sank the Yamato single handed...

Another Gato class sub

THE TITANIC, my goodness the dang thing sunk, make a model of the ice berg instead.

I scan the internet and read how builders are almost breathless in anticipation of a new Akagi (or something similar) in the same scale as the one they built ten years ago by another manufacturer. Stop encouraging these model companies, next they'll be offering you another PT 109 in 1/1250 scale this time with photo etch included, yikes!

And for the sake of decency, please Revell, stop turning out models I built a million years ago when I was a kid. Invest in some new molding you skinflints.Big Smile

Having served aboard the 683 from 80 to 85, I would Love to have the chance to build the Parche. As a matter of fact, they could do a DevGru series - Halibut, Seawolf, Parche and so on.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Parche_(SSN-683)

As of 2007, Parche was said to be "the most highly decorated vessel in U.S. history", receiving a total of nine Presidential Unit Citations and ten Navy Unit Commendations. The submarine also received thirteen Navy Expeditionary Medals during her thirty years of service.

The modern Parche SSN 683 which was retired 2 years ago is or should I say was the most decorated US Combat Ship Ever.. Nothing comes close except maybe the New Jersey or The Halibut SSN 587.. Both Parche and Halibut as well as the USS Peanut ( Jimmy Carter SSN 23) were and are "spook" boats.. So of course very few are aware of their amazing exploits except those who rode them and those who controled their whereabouts etc.

It's a shame Parche has not been kitted.......yet.

Again, I haven't heard that the modern SSN Parche did anything of particular military heroism, or that she ever received any special commendations for anything either, nor was she ever involved in combat (unlike the original 'Parche).  Spooks rarely get recognised for their activities, not matter how successful (as a former spook myself, I know this to be true!), and as SSN 683 spent her career mostly listening in on Soviet encrypted telephone calls, I rather doubt she received many Medals of Honor, or Presidential Citations either.  Have a look at http://www.parche.org/history.htm and see if I am just talking through my hat!

Revell did the snowberry,

And, actually, Matchbox/Airfix did all the work, all RoG did was buy the moulds.

Mike Fuller, running a Shapeways shop named Mulsanne's Corner has designed a 3D printed conversion which is used to modify the MicroMir Long-hull Sturgeon into the covert-ops Parche.

https://www.shapeways.com/product/9LF3FXRVP/uss-parche-ssn-683-special-op-version-1-350-scale?optionId=71211280

I have built his USS Tunny SSG conversion of the AFV Club Gato.   It was well engineered & went together well.   I have the Parche and donor Sturgeon, waiting for the inspiration to proceed.   His drydeck shelters are also well detailed and designed to have a operational hatch door.

Freetime Hobbies/Blue Ridge Models makes some resin & brass kits of the Halibut and Growler/Greyback.  All 1:350 scale.

How about ships THEY SHOULD NEVER OFFER AGAIN!!!

My list...

Iowa Class, any scale
If we ever get a USA based manufacturer, maybe then we will get whatever we (USA) want.  How 'bout 9 different New Jerseys in 1/700, 1/500, 1/350 depicting launch, commissioned, going thru Panama canal, repainted for pacific, new bridge,  1944 look, 1945 look, 1951 look,  etc... right up to 1991.  ( Forgot... as a Museum ship... I guess we need 10 versions.) LOL to the above.
Fletchers
There are a lot of variations in the Fletcher class.  Not sure that AM and scratch building could work on all.   Round Bridge, Square bridge, AA suite, Post WWII, Cold War conversioins,  Other countries versions, right up to the early 1970's.
another carrier (just change the hull number, presto! a NEW release)
Yes, the name change/same mold thing has got to stop.  A good Kitty Hawk  and a cheaper 1/700 USS Midway Gulf War version that's less than $250.00 MSRP
Bismarcks
I think with the great 1/350 Revell Bismarck and now the Flyhawk 1/700 Bismarck,  OEM's can put their fingers in the Bismarck-mold bottle.  No more Bismarck molds are needed.
Hoods
There have been many incorrect Hoods.  I think the new kits have made up for that deficiency.  Done with Hood!
Yamato's in any scale.
Yamato is available in a version to match practically every major event in WW2 and several versions for post 1945!  We have enough.

American PT Boats, the most over rated naval craft of all time, you'd think from all the hoopla they sank the Yamato single handed...
PT boats are a bit different .  We have the 1/72 and 1/35 versions that are very nice but all are Elco 80 foot.  Where are good kits of Elco 77 footers and Higgins 78 foot?
Another Gato class sub
Try searching for a good Gato to represent the Mare island/Portsmouth built boats.  There are a multitude of variations in the hulls and Fairwater too. I think we could use a few more Gato's.
THE TITANIC, my goodness the dang thing sunk, make a model of the ice berg instead.
Okay, Too many  Titanic's.  Minicraft did the definitive one .  But Where are the sister ships?
I scan the internet and read how builders are almost breathless in anticipation of a new Akagi (or something similar) in the same scale as the one they built ten years ago by another manufacturer.
Akagi with 3 decks, with one deck, before it was a CV...  Done.  I think every Japanese WWII ship or Class leader has been molded. Varieties of pre-war thru as-sunk abound. Now all they need is to re-issue them all with Full hull.  Gosh, I can hardly wait!   And then maybe a few what-if's and then maybe....   The Japanese model companies can make what they want. They know their market.   I wish they would put their efforts on new projects though.
Stop encouraging these model companies, next they'll be offering you another PT 109 in 1/1250 scale this time with photo etch included, yikes!
Too late...a tiny PT 109 is available, although in  1/1200  metal. "PE" will be pieces of Cat fur applied using the included microscope.

And for the sake of decency, please Revell, stop turning out models I built a million years ago when I was a kid. Invest in some new molding you skinflints.Big Smile
Okay , there have been a few models from the far past that maybe need to be re-issued-with a few hull corrections!   Renwal's Compass island,  Revells Norton Sound, and Aurora's Guadalcanal and Atlantis.  These classes of ships will not likely ever be molded by anyone as the market for them is small. (edit:  Did someone already make a 1/700 Iwo Jima class LPH?... Na, it was a LPD class... close but no cigar.)

And last.  Some Thoughts....
Some of these OEM's are listening.  If I had the Money I would buy every Flyhawk 1/700 kit available.   They are making many ships never represented before and doing it in superb detail.
Now, if we could stop the flood of Trumpeter kits that are molded "Just good enough", then we could have some great model ships with, for example,  proper Torpedo Bulge widths ( ie: HobbyBoss Arizona, Trumpeter Texas).

Although not Steel ships, a nice re-issue of the Kearsarge and Alabama WITH CORRECTIONS would be real nice.  Even better, nice NEW molds in 1/150.   And that brings us back to Proposals for new 1/350 scale ships.  Key word: NEW.

For those who are hopeful for new sailing ships, remember that Heller sold many of their sailing ship molds over 40 years ago.   Other companies did the same.  A nice Heller Occident is now a Zvezda Sirius, An Aurora Viking is now from Smer, and an IMAI Spanish Galleon is now from  Modelist.  What was that movie?  "The Russians are coming"...

Check Mulsanne's instruction PDF for the Parche.

http://www.mulsannescorner.com/ModelInstructions/USSParcheinstructions.pdf

It gives you an idea as what you get and what will be involved.  Note the ducted maneuvering thrusters.  It isn't cheap - but is the only game in town.  The cost is driven by the real estate requirements on the 3D print stage and the time to print at the fine resolution.

Those other USCGC's and boats. And, as mentioned, mostly very old molds and BOX SCALE!

ITC US Coast Guard Rescue boat,  Lindberg US Coast Guard Patrol Boat, Revell's USCG Campbell/R.B Taney and the several versions of the USCGC Eagle.

Here is one USCG in 1/350:

Not a big selection for a Service Branch that is busy every darn day.
