My Gemini 12 project
Posted by f1steph on Saturday, November 17, 2012 12:16 AM

Hello,

My current project is the Gemini 12  capsule (1/24). I was soooo happy when Revell reissued it this year. And to top it off, I was able to buy one. So I've decided to built the last Gemini flight that everybody at NASA was so happy how it turned out. Aldrin showed how to master the EVA.

I'M currently scratchbuilding the ejection seats. My first attempt was to modify the seats from the kit but I didn't like what I did. So I'm trying to make some from scratch. Hell of a job. I'll do the same with the cockpit. Here's a few pictures but I've done more parts lately but didn't take any pictures yet.

Real pictures of G12 are rare, very rare, especially of the EVA's. Lovell was in the cockpit and Aldrin was too busy working. I've captured pictures from various DVD's. The only pictures I've got showing Aldrin with his golden slippers were taken inside the pool while he's practicing an EVA. The quality is horrible for details. Anybody know a site where I can have find some? I've search the net all over the place with no success...

I remeber reading somewhere that the camera used to photograph Aldin during his EVA floated on out off the capsule and was lost.

So far ... so good, Steph.

I did the same for Gemini 9A, scratchbuilt the interior and for reference pix, there is not very much available.

Spacecraft Films DVD had most of the info I needed, and the pix of the AMU in the aft section, and Aldrin's "slippers" are probably the same as I found. You'll just hafta do what you can with what you have. The upside, is no-one will be able to correct you using photos!  ;-)

Keep posting your progress!

Hi Pete,

I also have most of the Spacecraft Films DVD's (well except Apollo1,14 and Project Mercury). IVe got some screen captures pictures from the Project Gemini, A bold leap forward that will help me for the exterior of this Gemini 12 project. But they are not very clear simply because the 1960's footage. Anyhow, here's my latest pictures of my ejection seats. They aren't exactly perfect but I think they look better then the ones from the kit.

I've let aside adding more details to seats for now because I need to fit them inside the capsule. That means that I need to built the walls and floor of the capsule, my seats don't fit with the original parts. Up to now, it's not a simple task. Stay tuned...

Hi all,

Here's my latest pictures. I'm still working on the ejection seats and backwall. I still have a few details to add . All the decals were added to the cockpit panels, next will be to add details like switches, protective bars. Both side cockpit panels are done. At the same time, I started working on the astronauts, got to figure how to connect the oxygen system.
