I Wish I Had a Space 1999 Eagle Kit
Posted by rodc on Thursday, February 2, 2012 8:51 AM

After another failed attempt of trying to win one on Evil Bay, I am resigned to the fact of perhaps never having one.  As a kid, I loved the series and have been trying to get an Eagle for about 1.5 years.  eBay kits either get bid up way too high or I simply get beaten.

If anyone has one to part with for a reasonable price or knows where I can buy one from a hobby shop, please PM me!

You might have a better response posting this in the Science Fiction forum.  Barring Newt Gingrich's plans for a moonbase, I think it's still in the realm of fiction....Wink

Check your e-mail. I have one of these kits. I sent you an e-mail about it to the e-mail address  listed on your son's memorial web site. It is the only address I could find for you. Gordon

I did a quick check on e-bay. The kit was listed for a variety of prices from $85 to $635.

Yeah they can go on eBay for pretty steep. As old and as hard to find as these kits are, I think they might be getting a little overpriced.  I always worry about unscrupulous people running their own maximum bids to get a little bidding war on the go if you know what I mean.  Of course one I saw on Amazon from a collector was also in the $200 range.

BTW, Gordon, I just sent you an email.

Thanks,

RODC

Very sorry to hear of your plight.

I built one of those kits long ago.

AIRFIX management would do well to follow the lead set by Revell , Round Two Models, Moebius and others by re-releasing kits that sell for high e-bay prices.

WOW! I didnt realize these have gotten so expensive. I remember getting the IMAI 1/110 and the diorama several years ago for$15-$20 each.

Just hang in there with the bids. Its been my experience that sooner or later one will pop up that for whatever reason you will get for a reasonable price.

I watched the AMT Rancor for almost a year and recently got it for $35. There were only two of us bidding. The other guy either had a change of heart of forgot about it.

I've also gotten a King Zor and Johnny Reb cannon (toys not models) for under $25 when they normally go for $60 and up,

Ya gotta be patient and persistant. (easier said than done I'm sure!)

Depending on your skill level there is a company called Warp who make resin and white metal ones which are considered to be better than the old Airfix ones. I have a 3 in my stash and they look to be good kits but with the usual problems from resin and white metal. Price wise they can got for $100 or so on ebay if your lucky. You could have a look at the Eagle Transporter web site where Eagles are pretty much all they talk about.

There was also the Hawk - which was the fighter version. I have two Airfix (one I got for $10 or so at a toy fair!!) and again one made by Warp which I can clearly see is way better quaility.

Hope all that helps

Phil

You have to be careful which one you get, too. The best one seems to be the AMT kit.

I did one HERE -- lots of good research and links to better decals, and a full WIP on scratchbuilding techniques to improve the kit. I was pretty happy with my one and only spaceship model ever.
