Dragon Models

I'm looking for feedback on this line of space models.

I've only seen these in ads and never had one on my hands.

I'm aware they have issued several prebuilt models over the last few years. I see they are now releasing kits in addition to prebuilts.

Any experience with the kits? How do they compare to our more familiar lines? (Revell, Airfix, etc)

Are the kits basicly the prebuilts except in pieces?

Thanks

I have one and it looks cherry in the box...never seen the pre-built ones so I can't say they are the same but the styrene parts are very nice...

I believe they are kit versions of the prebuilt models. The detail is far beyond much of what has been available in plastic. The one I have now is the 1/72 Mercury Redstone. They tried to avoid the usual problems of molding the "tube" main body in halves, and ending up with egg shapes. Instead they molded them in stacks of round pieces. The only problem is it "almost" works. You still end up with uneven seams at the joints. I'm thinking about mounting it in a lathe and turning it down smooth. For some reason they also ignored the indented ring above the fins and all other detail on the surface of the redstone. The capsule is a gem but the tower is almost possible to assemble as shown. I attached it to the capsule to line it up then removed it for painting.

I have the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Kit.  The descent stage is coated in gold metallic paint and it looks good. It's a simplistic kit (three step assembly) but it has a good amount of detail.  I have my eye on the Mercury Redstone next...
