Thinning Tamiya Liquid Primer (bottle)
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 11:14 AM

Anyone know if Tamiya Liquid Primer can be thinned with regular lacquer thinner? Just don't want to have to buy yet another proprietary thinner if I can avoid it. I have lots of generic lacquer thinner on hand. I'd like to be able to airbrush this stuff.

TIA

Chris

I thin it with Tamiya lacquer thinner.  Generic lacquer thinner should do the job.  You'll love the primer.

I've used the primer with Tamiya lacquer thinner. I've also used it without any issues with what we know locally as Methylated Spirits (AKA denatured alcohol)

When thinned with Tamiya lacquer thinner or denatured alcohol, it's pretty styrene friendly and non-aggressive towards the plastic. Generic lacquer thinner will probably work ok, but may not be as plastic-friendly.
