Liquid Masking with acrylic paint
Posted by Vince on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 11:41 AM
I normally use MicroMask along with tape or parafilm for masking windows and canopies. This worked fine when I painted with enamels. I have started to use acrylic, "water based" paint. The manufacture for MicroMask recommends to not use water based paint since this could dissolve the masking. Before I start experimenting I thought I would check to see what others have used for masking. Thanks

I also used to use liquid masks before I switched to Acrylics. I sometimes used bare metal foil back then, too.

Since switching I just use Bare Metal Foil for all my canopy masking. Well, actually, I use it for anything that Tamiya tape or Line-o-Tape doesn't work for.

I too would be interested in anyone's ideas that might be cheaper to use.

I've not really had good experiences using liquid masking with acrylics as I never seem to be able to get a good clean edge (there is usually some flakiness going on).

Tamiya tape & vinyl fineline tape are my preferred masking materials for edges, with infill from cheap everyday masking tape & sometimes liquid mask on large or troublesome areas.

I think Vallejo makes a liquid mask for their acrylics.
