alternatives for glueing canopy
Posted by Putsie on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 8:46 PM

Hi guys !

Currently working on a 1/72 scale P6M vacuform kit.

The canopy fits well if gently pressed in place but doesn't fit snug if not held.  Could I coat the inside with "Future" to prevent fogging with supe-glue?  Or would regular model cement work well if I used tape to hold it in place while drying?  I used the watch crystal cement from Micro-Mark, but it didn't hold when I "wet-sanded" the filler along the seam.

Some of the conversations here in the forums prompted me to try the glue which sets with a UV light to secure clear parts in place. It's worked out well - pretty cool stuff to experiment with. Easy to use, clean as a whistle, and absolutely crystal clear when cured with the light.

CA can still fog canopies that have been Futured, but if you have access to the interior you can remove the future and the fog will come off with it.

Personally, I have begun using the new UV (laser) hardening cements.  I find it holds better than the white glue type transparency glues, and is more reliable than epoxy.

Thanks, I didn't think of that.

Interesting.

I've seen those cements, but wasn't sure if they were a bit of a fad or had some real potential.

Sounds like they may well be worth investigating.
