PHOTOETCH and HOW it,s done
Posted by tankerbuilder on Monday, April 12, 2010 8:53 PM

Nope! I am NOT going to tell you how to MAKE photoetch parts!! What I am going to share with you is the way I install my parts. To some of you it may be strange, but, it works for me.I do so enjoy it when folks ask me "how did you get those etched parts on with no glue showing??"The answer may seem simple, but, I learned something from a chemist years ago that has held me in good stead in this process.I buy some bottles of TESTORS clear.I get it home and open it up, I put the open bottles in a dust free container for a week ,yes, open!.Now ,when I go back I have a very thick paint based adhesive. How? Well, the paint had a chance to gas out some of the base solvents.YES,it,s still paint, but very thick paint!! Now I use a sewing needle(FINE) with the end of the eye ground off,as an applicator. I dip it in the CLEAR paint and lightly touch it to the brass part. Then I install said part! If you are curious, yes ,I have done it with the primary colors I use on a model too. This way, no glue spots nada, nein, neffer!! I hope this helps you get a neater brass application on your next model. This is REALLY helping me make the transition to 1/700. as ,the parts may be smaller, but the technique still works great!!  tankerbuilder
