Paint organization - Spice rack?
Posted by panzerpilot on Monday, November 21, 2011 1:25 PM

Just curious what kind of paint organization you folks use? I have my paints in a 3 drawer plastic storage cabinet which makes it hard to find, or inventory, the various colors.

I have like a tiered spice rack which i built myself from scrap MDF.

7 or 8 tiers. and i order my paints on it starting with gloss black (x-1) right through to the highest gloss number i have. then i start on the matts (XF-1) and go through. since its hard to get anything thats not tamiya here. it works quite well for me.

Here's my solution(s):

Elfa spice racks:

Repurposed old shelves + PVC tees:

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

While I keep the most-used basic colors at the bench, I keep my collection of specific MM paints in cardboard boxes and group them by genre-RLM, US, Russian.  I paint the cap with the color in the jar and write the name or # on the top so I can find them at a quick glance.  When I'm working on German A/C, I just grab the RLM box and it's all there within reach.  I would use a rack system except for the fact that I have far too much paint and no good place to hang a rack.
