Sherman Tracks
Posted by BackBlast on Friday, November 25, 2011 8:08 AM

Hello All

anyone out there have a basic painting and weathering technique for Sherman tracks.  The ones I used are from Friulmodel, white metal...I have used them before on German armor and started with a base of gun metal and went from there...not sure that would give me the finish i want on these...any suggestions?

thanks

There is a product called Blacken it that is used to darken white metal to give it a more realistic look. We have it at our LHS, it's used a lot by model railroaders and it shouldn't be too hard to find. You could use it first then do any painting over it that you want to achieve the look you want.

thanks...i have seen that product before but never used it.  I'll try it.  Again, thanks for the help.  i usually have the most trouble with tank tracks with the initial base coat and then washes.  Again, thanks for the response.

anyone else out there have any tips for me.  I usually do german armor and this will be the first US tank.  my first stab at it with a small section of leftover track just didn't turn out at all like it should have.  Should i base coat with a rust color or some kind of brown and go for a really dark wash.....help!!
