Sam Walton To The Rescue!

I am involved in a Club Build.  My assigned kit is the Revell Bell H-13 Sioux.  The goal here is to make it look like the static display at our local 45th Infantry Museum.  Anyway, I would like to share the following with you (re-posted from my local club website).

At the bench looking over the progress made (and lack thereof). When it dawned on me. The kit does not have any doors!!

The Sioux needs to have a white canopy AND doors,  similar like the static display at the 45th.

What now? Enter Sam Walton! Or, Walmart to be more specific, heck enter Great Value to be exact! Walmart sells these delicious great value powdered drink mix. Cherry-Pomegranate rocks by the way.

After removing the wrapper you get a great container that can be used to store brushes, sand sticks, and a million other toolbox pieces.

More important, they are made of a thin, strong plastic and can be cut easily.  And, it just so happens the sides are the right curvature I need.

I traced the doors on an index card and made stencils out it

I transferred it to the cut sheets of plastic from the containers and voilà doors!!

After some sanding, cutting, sanding some more, I ended with a workable solution.  I will have to fill in some gaps and add some hinges.  For the most part I call these scratchbuild doors a GO!

Below are the Left and right side doors in place (dry fittings).

Thank you for looking.
