Clear parts help
Posted by 96Daksport on Sunday, January 15, 2012 11:18 PM

Hi all.  First post.  I just purchased Revell's Visible V8, and wanted to know what you guys recommend to glue the clear plastic pieces together.  Can superglue be used?

Also, as a quick side note, the first step includes the note "Do not be concerned that the holes on the front nut retainer do not line up with the holes in the main fame block"  I hope this project is more fun then frustrating.

Most CA (superglue) risks fogging the clear plastic nearby.  I generally use Micro-glaze or similar stuff that is like a thick white glue. If I need really strong bond- say windows in an airliner fuselage that I am afraid to have pop in during masking, I will use epoxy.

When you say epoxy, is there a modelling specific type, or just any hardware store variety two part epoxy?

Usually 5 min epoxy.  Can be had at any hobby / hardware / WM / FM type store.

For plastics, I use MM liquid cement w/ the black label.  Just be careful with application.  For PE, I use thick CA

For my wood RC stuff, I'll use thin & thick Cyano Acryltate (CA), Ambroid, Gorilla Glue, yellow wood glue, 5min, 15min & 30min epoxies, and zap goo.
