Me, I'd start with a basic black paint job and then start masking off different panels and sections so I could then hit those areas with a different shade or sheen of black.  Since you are using spray bombs, you'd need to mask pretty much everything else to avoid overspray..  I think that you could make an interesting paint scheme by varying only the sheen of the paint itself, but again, lots of masking.  Tamiya's Nato Black is an awesome color and Model Master/Testor's/PollyScale make a number of different shades of black that can used although I don't know of their availability in cans.

I can't think of what I'd use to preshade a black finish except for varying shades and tones of dark grey.

Sounds like it will be an interesting collection at any rate.

Aircraft detailed in black...

Hi, I am totally new to the hobby. I am interested in create a army of jet aircraft but just in black. I do not have too much space at home, or money (at the moment) to go for and airbrush, so I decided enjoy myself painting my planes in black. I will paint with cans for the moment. But there are lost of questions. Lets say I want to test myself with the Zvezda SU-47 (/72). How I can detail the panels? how can I give it a dirty look (fatigue) as it has been in service for a long time, not new? I think I will not go for a shinny look but instead something more "tired". Is there a particular black tone someone can recommend? or maybe a shade of different blacks? This particular model cames in black plastic already...how I can start with a different plane  in grey plastic? which colors may I use for the preshades? Are there any older post related to my question? I want to have fun! Thank for your views.  T Big Smile
