Hans von Hammer

Sounds to me like you had some cement or CA fumes in the cokpit or on the canopy-fuselage joint.. What did you glue it with?

If that's the case, you can prevent that by dipping the canopy in Future and letting it cure before gluing it down. The Future also allows you to remove a lot of problems with alcohol later on (because you are removing the layer of Future).

Sorry for sort of rubbing salt in the wound now, since it won't help retroactively, but may help next time.

Hi Richard

I may have spoke to soon
I have been applying the rubbing alcohol a couple of times now
I have really had to scrub with the q-tip both dry and with the alcohol
and the fog seems to be slowly coming off (very slowly)
Have you had to scrub yours several times before your canopy was clear again.
Thank-you

Hi

I tried 99% Rubbing alcohol on the canopy and it did not help at all.

I used a q-tip to apply the Rubbing Alcohol and used the dry end of the q-tip to wipe it off

Does anyone have any suggestions

Thank-you

Scott

That makes me think it is not paint that is fogging your canopy. Alcohol never failed me in removing either acrylic or enamel paint from any surface.

So without seeing or handling the canopy in question i'd say the canopy's plastic itself is tainted. There are ways to make them ok again but personally i would buy a new one in such a case. Maybe you can contact the distributor or manufacturer of the kit for a replacement part?

91% rubbing alcohol (don't bother with the 75% stuff) should take off acrylic or enamel without hurting the plastic.

Ditto Had this happen too... Carefully remove the canopy, dip a qtip in 91/96% alcohol and it should come off quite easily. Rub dry again with the dry end.

If its acrylic paint over-spray, then some Windex on a q-tip should work.  If its an opaque fogging, dipping it in future might just clear it up.  I would try these before i stripped it and started over, but that's just me.

How to redo my canopy for my A-10
Posted by Arespontus on Monday, March 19, 2012 10:14 AM

Hello

I am working on a 1/72 scale A-10 Thunderbolt

It is one of my better models. I spent just under a month painting the ordnance for it

However when I removed the tamiya tape from the canopy, It appear's a little foggy on one side.

I am not sure if its from a chemical reaction, Or somehow my airbrush went through one of the seams of the canopy

I have worked so hard on the other parts of the model that I want to redo the canopy.

How can I remove the tamiya paint from the canopy and the fog so that I would be basically be starting over.

Can I use Rubbing Alcohol, Windex or something else

Thank-you

Scott
