Also, if you rivet after paint, and you wheel goes off the mark....you'll have to repair and repaint.

Oh man.  I never even THOUGHT of that!  Bang Head  That's why this forum is so great!  Sometimes you get such a bad case of tunnel vision that you can't see what should be obvious.  LOL!  I think you guys just saved my F-89 which I've already had to strip from a previous botched paint job.

Thanks to all!

Always rivet before paint. Sometimes its even best to rivet parts such as wings or fuselage before you glue them together. Just tape them down on to your cutting matt and rivet away.

Ditto I don't have a rivet wheel....I use a needle and go one by one. When I do rivet, I rivet the main parts before gluing them, and stay back a bit from the edges, so I don't have to do it again, after sanding.

I think I'm going to have to give that a try, Waikong.  I painted my F-89 last night and the thought sort of came to me after it was painted.  I should have asked my question first!  LOL!  But i do have a scrap He-111 wing to try it out on.  I should do a side-by-side comparison to see which looks better:  Using the rivet wheel before or after painting.  I just wasn't sure if anyone on the forum used the rivet wheel on a regular basis or had a definite thought on the matter.

Thanks!

I say definitely before the paint. Would imagine if used after the paint that it can easily remove the top coat down to the plastic?

Hi guys!

I think my subject line kind of said it all.  I was wondering if you thought it would be best to use a rivet tool before or after painting.  What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Eric
