Removing Bare Metal Foil residue?
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 11:25 AM

   Ok folks,

So, I masked the canopy to my Revell 1/48 F/A-18E using Bare Metal Foil. When I pulled it off, it left residue all over. The canopy was dipped in Future before I applied the BMF mask. Question is, what's the best way to get the residue off the clear part? I've heard of Goo-Gone, but will that eat the Future coat as well?

Nevermind. A dab of WD-40 on a cotton swab seems to have done the trick.

Does the alcohol take off the Future, though, Don?

It might. I seldom coat my canopies with future. I assume you could coat it after masking and painting.

I use Goo-Gone with a small swab or Q-tip.

once again giving my 2 cents late.  yes the alcohol will remove the Future.  If you're worried about the about of some sort of solvent... take some masking tape and pres it on the residue. Doing this a couple of time is usually all that is needed to get the goop off.

Just don't get into that situation. always practice on spare canopy parts.Spare practice parts will save you $ and make you a better modeler.
