I'm new to the forum and like a lot of people that view the different subjects it is almost intimidating to make a remark when you find people on here that have years of experience and your new to the hobbie. I have been building on and off for around 45 years but have not been involved for the past 20 and things have changed. When I look at some of the finished products on here and see the detail and experience involved it is at most intemidating at least to me. I would put my ability at a good builder level but need a lot more experience in finishing. I hope to be able to get comfortable enough to be involved and try to ask good questions and be able to also give good responses. Anytime something is new and you feel to be at the rookie level you tend to enter slowly and be discrete. Thanks for letting me be part of your group.

Well,one is never to new to compliment  what they think is a nice build or ask about a process the builder did.It's a good way to get your feet wet on the forum and get to know guys,and it is certainly appreciated.

I echo what Bish said. When I joined up here by skills were crude and that is no exaggeration. Pics are a great way to break the ice and jump in. Please don't be intimidated by others work here and let that keep you from posting. I can guarantee that no one here came out of the womb with the modelling skills they display here!! Ask questions! If you see a finish that was achieved and you dont know how, by all means ask for the builder to elaborate on how they did it! Karl (aka thedoog) just went through great lengths and took much time to post an awesome indi track link tutorial over in the armor forum so there are definitely folks here that are willing to share!

Thing is, one of the best ways I have found to improve is to post pics. As long as you are open to comments, suggestions and advice, if people can see your work, then they have a better chance of pointing you in the right direction.

And there are some members here who only joined within the last year, but you wouldn't know it. They get stuck in, and comment when they can. And everyone has something new to bring. Guys fresh to the hobby or have been away from it for a while may have ideas that others don't think about because they are stuck in their ways.

I have been building now for 30 years with only a 5 year break. I originally joined here in 2002 but only got fully involved in 2008 when I came back to modelling. My skill levels were pretty basic despite having built for 20 years. But in the last 6, I have come on leaps and bounds. that's mainly by posting pics, asking questions when I wasn't sure and just getting involved.

Many of you , no all of you that have replied to Don's post have hit the proverbial nail on the head.

You post something you get a hundred views and maybe, just maybe one reply.

I'm one of those that spend most of my time in certain forums , G M D forum, Ready Room, Armor and once in a while Techniques. I also am with out sin on some of the things that members are lacking and for the same reasons , time, what I would post would sound lame.

  If there is a way to post to more than one forum with out reentering the hole thing point me to it like I've said before  I'm not a computer geek. With the gray area between forums. What you post in G M D  could also fit in Techniques.

 Now to enter a post  in this forum that 's getting viewed but no reply's in another forum.

Started a new job and am too busy to come on as much as I use to. But still active, lets build more stuff!

yea I'm one of those whose been around for 10yrs+ and don't get online much, and I'm pretty intermittent about building. But I've learned a ton from all on the threads.

I'm always jumping from planes to ships to AFV's, back and forth and slowly........hence my onagain-offagain signature.

Some projects sit for months and then I get wired and sit for hours to finish it.

But that doesn't stop me from buying MORE!!

Don, I agree, I get lost after about 5 photos.  However, when I want to see how someone else built their 41 Willys (for instance), then they can't supply enough photos!

rommelkiste: If I ever do get something worthy of posting here, I would not consider those to be lame comments if you were to use them on my thread!  We are all so busy nowdays, anything would suffice.  Someone else mentioned a like button!

I am one that is guilty of not making a comment on many posts.  I have been a modeler for 50+ years, mostly automotive and have done a few aircraft, armor and ships.  When I view some of the beautiful work on this forum (other than automotive) I sometimes don't have the words for a comment.  I don't want to leave a lame comment like "Wow"  "Thats really nice"  "nice model".  I may not comment often but I think lots of the builders on this forum are some of the worlds finest.  Most of you don't know it, but I have picked up many, many skills and tips from lots of you and I thank you for it.  To all of you that post pics and WIP's, I AM looking and learning!  Keep it up.

I guess I am not a fan of posting a large number of pics. I do post pics of my completed models, and a few WIP.  However, I get a bit tired of scrolling through dozens of pics in a single message.  I may be the odd man out here, but I like it better when someone only posts maybe half a dozen or less per message. I personally restrict it to about two or three.

I appreciate being able to come to this forum, see your work, and if I have the time or inspiration, make a comment.  Again, I'm really glad you guys take the time to photograph and post!  I think we all have a certain level of participation which changes as time dictates.  Running the farm/home doesn't allow for too much hobby time so far, but winter is coming!

You answer questions for newbies,and on many of them you get no feedback or thank you's.Sometimes you research an answer for someone,and still-nothing !!!

Agreed wholeheartedly.  Seems like all the familiar names are gone now which is a shame.  It does seem the etiquette is gone too.  As a result, now I only comment on the builders threads who take the time to do so on mine.  I guess our sewing circle of modelers is getting smaller.

I'll have to say there seems to be some better/ more worthwhile threads lately. I've been guilty of staying in the Group Build area myself but lately have ventured out some due to the fact that there are some interesting threads going on.
