Making rope in 1/35 scale

What I do, to help the rope keep it's shape, is to make a white glue & water solution - just a bit of the Elmer's to water. I dip the rope into, or brush on, the solution and pose the rope as I want it. You may need to use some clips to hold until it sets up. Hope that helps! :)

White glue is the way to go here - I'd just suggest a slightly different technique. The way I did it was to put some white glue along the "rope", and then, using bare fingers, to run the glue down the length of the line, wiping off te excess in process. Then let dry for a few minutes - the "rope" gets slightly sticky, you can coil it on some object like smooth metal rod or something. It will be sticky enough to stick together, but dry enough that it can be taken off of the rod and placed on the model.

I also use the thinned white glue for shaping threads and string.  I dilute about half and half.  I lay out the coil on waxed paper, when dry I take it off the waxed paper and transfer to model.
