Waterlines - With or without Boot Stripes .
I think I may have said this before .
Just thought I would give this reminder . Do you want a good way to do this ? Here's the easiest way . First make sure your hull is level fore and aft , port to starboard . Sit in a block of clay about two inches off the table top
Now take a sharpened number two pencil and some LEGO blocks .The ones with two pins wide and four pins long . Tape the pencil to the top one .Now adjust the height on the pencil , not the ship .
Place the pencil point on the stem side at the Bow . Make sure it's where it is supposed to be . Now gently slide the pencil aft keeping steady pressure on the pencil against the hull .
Now , adjust the pencil to do the bottom of the boot stripe . Do it and remove the ship from the clay block . Now carefully tape the top line with Tamiya flex tape followed by masking tape and a cover to keep overspray away .
Do the same with the bottom line . Spray or brush a thinned paint to get a nice line . Now remove all the tape and let sit for at least two days . Do Not use acrylics for this . I don't like the way they tend to peel off .
Now tape the bottom of the stripe , covering it first with the Tamiya tape run through your fingers before applying .This will cut it's stickiness . It will stick when burnished down though .
Make sure to cover the rest up well and spray or brush your Deep Rust ( M.M.) Waterline Red ( M.M.) or as in some , Green . I like Moss green for this , again (M.M.) , Because it's not to bright .
Remove all the tape and covering and admire your beautiful paint job !
