Rubber Tires
Posted by Aggieman on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 5:46 PM

I am currently working through my last two builds for the year - Revell's F4U-1A Corsair and Tamiya's F4U-1 Corsair "Birdcage", both 1/32.  These kits cannot be further apart in terms of detail, but surprisingly, the ancient Revell holds up pretty well.

So the Tamiya has garnered a bunch of my attention recently.  During a lull in activity, I took a look at the tires included in the kit.  They are rubber (I think) with an ugly seam running around the circumference of each tire.  I tried to scrape the seam away with my XActo (not a new blade currently in use) and then tried lightly sanding away the seam.  All to no avail.  Is there a way to get rid of that seam that won't completely ruin what is otherwise a fine looking tire?

Or should I just pitch 'em and get the aftermarket Eduard Brassin set?

Eduard, and they look weighted.

Now, your Mission, should you decide to accept it; is to transfer the working landing gear and wing folds on the Tammie..

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
