Question on scribing panel lines
Posted by Aviator on Monday, June 27, 2005 7:05 PM
I've got some panel lines that have been lost in sanding. And I don't have much (or any) experience at scribing panel lines. The panel lines go across the seam in the plastic. I have the gaps filled and the scratches sanded out. Now I want to put the panel lines back on. What I wondering is, if I scribe the lines, will the putty crumble? Any thing else I should know?

Generally speaking, it's very difficult to scribe a clean, straight line in putty. On occasion, I've been able to using the back edge of a used #11 knife blade. It took a few very light passes to be able to do it, though. However, in most cases, the odds are against you. There is a another way. If the panel lines on the kit are raised, you can replace them with stretched sprue. Once painted, you won't be able to tell them apart.

Hi all,

Try with a fine needle in a pin-vise, softly at first...you might need to go over a good couple of times. Not an easy thing, as it is said. I also use a piece of the old Dymo tape as a guide

hope this is of help

regards

Oh wow, I was wondering how to fix up that hasegawa 1/48 shinden kit's raised lines (i only have 4 Aircraft kits =P ) but thanks Swanny for having that on your site. Though it still looks really hard to do and get it right, I guess i will give it a shot.
-=Ryan=- Too many kits... so little free time. MadDocWorks
