Well, I'm a aircaft modeler, so I'll talk about a/c's.
I think almost every modeler thinks about it that way...
We all want to make our models as accurate as possible. To let them look like real planes ( or tanks,...) , and sometimes even make them more beautiful then real aircrafts.
And when we haven't modeled for a long time, we want to start again as fast as possible...
So yeah, I think we all feel the same way as you...
