Making Aircraft Runway

One way is using thin cardboard and scoring lines in it for seperate sections. I then use an ink pen or pencil and mark into the scored lines. I smear over the lines with penciI to discolor the cardboard, too. I then take well thinned black and grey paint and place drops to simulate oil stains.



Another way is using wet/dry sandpaper and white glue it down to a base (wood plaque or mdf board).

OK Dan. Thank's for advise. I also refer to the same topic in this forum (runways) by another modeller. But I still thinking how do you place that aircraft so it sticks at the sandpaper or cardboard base, particularly for bigger craft like 1:48. Do you stick with CA glue between wheel and base or using any other tricks? I hope it will really static and don't move anymore when I carry that stuff. Pls your valuable sharing.

I dont glue mine down to the bases and pack everything seperately when moving.
But if I did, I would drill 1/16" or 1/8" holes in the bottom of the tires and into the base and CA glue 1/16" or 1/8" dia. brass rod to hold the model onto the base.

OK Dan, thank's again for reply. I think your second opinion I'll use for my model.

How about plaster? Get a picture frame, pour plaster in it, draw the lines, and sand it...
Would it work?

I consider your idea. I am now making sea water with pour the plaster into wrinkle aluminium foil, finish with gradation artist acrylic paint for coloring. But thinking about depth of fragile plaster if use as base for runway, I should use something to strengthen that plaster of course.
I try to post the sea water result using that plaster. Thank's.

I was thinking about a very thin layer on top of the glass. I'll try on a $2 frame from Walmart.
