Working with PE....newbe question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 9:06 PM
Hay everyone, I am sure that this has been discussed in here before, but I have a very basic question. I am building the USS Missiour 1/350 & picked up the GMM PE for it, both sets. Having never worked with PE before I was wondering, with the ladders, do you scrap off the molded ones, or do you just apply right over the top? Along with that question, on the main gun turrets, the same thing? Then when you apply the ladders, do you leave enough extra to bend at the top & bottom, or do you you just lay them flat? I know alot in one sitting & I am probably crazy for attempting this, but what the heck. Any help or advice would be great.

Thank you

I'm curious about this myself since I have a 1/570 battleship on deck, pictures would be nice for demonstrative purposes.

Yes, scrape off the molded in ladders. On the turret faces the actual ladder end bolted into brackets welded to the turret face so bending a rung at each end to stand the ladder off is the most correct way to do it. For other ladders on the ship I'd have to see photos to give an opinion and Iowas are not a class I've done much research on....yet.

One thing I've learned is, Research all known photos, pics, Etc for the type of vessel/aircraft/vehicle you are building. There are many books, websites out there with detailed information. Not to mention, these type of forumsTongue [:P] As for being crazy.... goes with the hobbyBow [bow]Mischief [:-,]My 2 cents [2c] Good luck & have fun with your Mighty Mo!!
