i do the acrylic wash like in swanny's page. but i'm thinking of trying waterbased ink by "rotring". it's a tech pen company. its as effective as oil washes plus it's a bit idiot proof since you use water and a little dishwashing soap.. hope this helps!

I use an old fashioned oil wash (on a Futured/gloss coated model). Black and/or burnt sienna dilluted with white spirit. I put it on the panellines, let it dry for 5 minutes and then remove the exces with a Q-tip.

I just tried a new technique… to me anyway… that I learned from a fellow member at this month IMPS meeting. It worked great and may well become the only way I will do washes in the future.

I made a pile of black pastel dust put it in a bottle with just enough water to make wash with the consistency you would expect to make with oils or enamels. A drop of dish soap to break the surface tension of the water and that’s it. Brushed over the panel lines, after Future, let dry and wipe off with a paper towel damp with water. The nice thing is… no smell and if you had to the whole thing could be washed off with plain water.

The P-40 with this technique is nearly done, lots of the teeny bits to put on, and will post pics soon.

EDIT
BTW... Ilike your handle... i just picked up the 1/48 Revell kit and can't wait ti get it started.
