Here's a few of methods you can consider:

Use a black marker to blacken the tops, followed by a touch of flat on the surfaces.

or

Fill the recesses with liquid mask and paint normally.

or

Gently press the part down onto a rubber ink pad (not the soft foam variety).

Suggestions wanted on how to paint clear grills. High spots (about 1/8") need to be black, recesses (about .003) need to be clear.
