Serving two masters: For awhile I've been scratchbuilding a 1/16th king tiger, well tooling bucks anyway. Sometimes a one off buck is such a trial, the last thing you want is to scratch a few more. Ever look at those radial cooling stacks on a tigers rr deck?. They don't look like much but they have 11 spokes set at 32.5 deg's, halved by a circular rein ring, dude I only got a protractor to do all that crazy spokin wit. Ah but all is not lost, ya see itill be a snap.
Master wants it snappy: A snap is a makeup F/X term for a quick and dirty negative, used once or twice then chucked. In my case I mixed RTV with cab-o-sil a thixatropic (yeah it's a real word.)agent made from glass, so wear a mask. Well sir ya just pack the glop on there wait and viola, you can cast a little clone of that rascally bit, that moments before had you bighting you're nails down to the 2nd metacarpal. Use a good epoxy resin for the copy, it does'nt shrink nearly as much as the urathane. COMING SOON, mold release & parting agents, what's all the hubbub.
The devil is in the details...and somtimes he's in my sock drawer. On the bench.
