Parts is parts; Near the end of wwll, the Wehrmacht had to improvise at just about everything.  And with "HEAT" rounds becoming more pervasive in combat, many ersatz solutions were tried.  PZKW IV spaced armour was sometimes replaced with expanded steel. Auto air cleaners have a metal diamond perf screen, some would look right for 1/35th.                      The right tulle for the job; Fabric stores sell a fine netting for veils ruffles etc. Called tulle it could sim camo net cyclone fence?.                                                                          "Watch" out; Spring driven watches have tiny screws chingaders and gizmo galore, and lots are broken, ergo cheap at yards sales thrift stores.                                                            In the big dollhouse; Craft stores that cater to the doll house set,(Imagine some folks blow their money on little houses.) sell a fine brass piano hinge.  For AC engine cowls and access doors, perfect in1/24th or 32nd if you don't look too hard.                                               One for muscle car guys, ok two; You know if I'm about to make offering to the gods of salvage, before I send that gadget to meet its maker I take it apart, Re break it to se if anything good's inside. And in old scanners and printers small gilmer belts are the driving force. Just right for a blower belt on 1/16th funny cars  Hood pins look cool on model cars, but you still want to see the mill. Bend fine wire into the clevis and the eye end of a needle isused as the pin.

The devil is in the details...and somtimes he's in my sock drawer. On the bench. Airfix 1/24 bf109E scratch conv to 109 G14AS MPC1/24 ju87B conv to 87G Rev 1/48 B17G toF Trump 1/32 f4u-1D and staying a1D Scratch 1/16 TigerII.
