Badger Patriot question
Posted by cwalker3 on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 12:45 PM

I just got one of these and am pleased with it except for the cap for the cup. Its cheap plastic with a poor fit. I'd like to replace it with something better but I've drawn blanks wherever I've looked. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have the Badger Velocity which is a gravity feed brush as well with a plastic cover. Only time the cap is on mine is when its in the case, I've never used it when spraying as I always thought the cup needed to be open to allow the paint to flow, I'm just careful and don't spill much.

Hope that helps

Phil

Hey Phil. I'm the opposite of you in that I always use the cup and usually end up spilling paint as I get caught up in what I'm doing. And the paint is able to flow with the cap is because the cap has a small hole in it.

I was not impressed with the Patriot that I had before, but a poorly fit cap was not one of the problem. You have 2 choices.

  1. Use a small piece of Saran wrap instead of the cap.
  2. Wirte Badger and describe the exact problem you have with the cap. If they determine it was defective, they will send you a new cap.

Good luck.

BTW, I have a metal cap with the Badger Krome, but it does not work as well as the cheap plastic cap on the Patriot. The plastic one was more secure.

I don't know if the cups are the same but you can buy the metal cap for the Krome from dealers that sell Badger parts. Coast Airbrush lists it for $9.50 or 9.75 I think. The folks at Badger could tell you if it will fit. It will add a little weight to the brush and make it a little more nose heavy. I rarely use a cap but admit I was a little put off by the plastic ones. Same thing with the little rubber protectors for the front of the brush. Tony

Thanks Keilau and Wingman_kz. I bought the Krome cap off of Amazon and it fits. Now I'll have to find other ways to make a mess when painting./

Now that you get the cap of the Badger Krome, you may want to consider getting the who Krome airbrush too. You will be very happy when you do. The Krome is a world of difference in quality and performance from the Patriot. Yes, I have had both and now still keep the Krome.
