Need input on what to do with clear coat
Posted by teejay on Saturday, February 28, 2015 6:57 PM

I over sprayed clear gloss on my automobile hood and there was an accumulation of the clear coat on the front hood. What's the best way to deal with this. Should I try to sand it with 2000 grit or just strip the gloss coat? If stripping can I use windex with ammonia? Thanks. for the help.

What clear coat did you use? If it's Future or Tamiya, you can easily strip the coat with Windex, which I'd do.

Be careful how fast you build it up.  Dust it on and slowly build it up.  The stuff dries superfast, but if you really put it on with a long blast it will run.  Put on a light coat- wait about 30 seconds to a minute, then another light coat, repeat till it looks glossy.  Part of the problem of any gloss coating or paint is to learn to recognize just before it runs, which you can only get by experience.  Some practice with gloss paints or gloss clear coats can be time well spent.
