Primer and new setup

I use rattle can Krylon primer for almost all of my priming.  I do notice that some of their primer colors work better than others. I find the gray works best, white works worst, red oxide nearly but not quite as good as the gray.  The gray primer is very full-bodied (thick) and covers scratches and seam artifacts well, but does tend to obscure detail.  Go lightly with it if model has fine detail, put it on heavy if you are filling seams.

I also sometimes use Duplicolor auto body primer in rattle cans, but find the Krylon a bit cheaper. Wal-mart has it at very good price.

I use Rustoleum brand grey primer since it's owned by Testors. Spray in several light coats (usually 2 coats is suffice) That's the correct Future BTW. The bottle cover has changed. Others use Mr Surfacer primer as well.

If you choose to use Pledge, you bought the right one. The "boots" packaging is obsolete already, and even though this one shows a misleading wood floor , it's the right one far as I know.

I'm not sure if anyone knows how close this is to the original Pledge formula with Future (tm) shine that modelers fell in love with years past.

Thanks for the fast replies. I just seen a few videos on youtube that use the future and it has that show quality deep paint job look that i want. If you guys have any recommendations for another clear that will stand up to what im looking for. feel free to chim in.  

Also im looking for a mid-darker candy blue that will work in the airbrush. Im alittle disappointed of how pinkish the red is a bought but it will work.

Candy colors should go over a silver or gold base.  Darkening can be done by more or heavier coats.

I have been using the Rust Oleum gray primer for awhile.  Much cheaper than Tamiya!  I have not tried the Krylon yet although I just saw it yesterday at my local Wal-Mart.  I may give that a try sometime to see which one I like better.  The Rust Oleum gray is a little dark, but the finish and adhesion (both to the model and the MM acrylic paints I use on top of it) is outstanding.  I have never tried white primer.  Not being an artist, is white primer hard to cover with other colors?  I mainly build airplanes (WW2 and modern jets).  Should I just stick to gray primer?
