Impressed with Iwata Gravity Fed Neo
Posted by plasticjunkie on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 11:05 AM

I love my Badgers, one being almost 40 years old but I sent them in for repairs a couple of weeks back. My Velocity was leaking air towards the rear handle and the tech told me it may be a crack in the body. If so he will be sending me a replacement. The older one which looks like a 150 is an easy repair.

I have heard great things about Iwata so I figured to grab a gravity fed Iwata Neo at Hobby Lobby with a 40% coupon that came out to $47 and change. It helps to have an extra airbrush anyway.

I have used it three times and I was very pleased with its performance. The trigger is very smooth, clean up is super fast and easy, and the spray pattern quality is very good. I'm really impressed with the product even though it's assembled in China unlike the higher end Iwatas but only time will tell.

Is this one single action, PJ?

If it's the one in the purple box, it's a dual action airbrush. I have that particular model as well. What's nice is the interchangeable cups and the lid for the larger cup. The smaller cup would be better for smaller jobs like painting propeller tips. I have yet had a chance to try it out myself.

AFAIC, Iwata has the best trigger action.  Now, you need to buy an Eclipse for precision work Smile

Greg

It's double action with a .35 tip,

Sheep

Mine came in a green box but yes it has two metal cups, one for smaller jobs and it's DA. I love the chrome finish it has.

For real fine work I have the Badger Renegade Velocity that can produce a hairline at 4-5 psi. I believe it has a .2 tip, not certain but it works like a charm.  I do find the Iwata's trigger much smoother than Badger's.

Ahah, thanks Ernie. I've considered getting the single-action one is why I asked. Keep us posted how you get on with it.

The Neo made for Iwata CN, is a gravity feed with a .35 needle and a .35 nozzle as reiterated above, this was my very first AB.  There made in Taiwan.  I've done some crazy experimental things with it, I completely agree with you.  It is one of the best AB out there for beginners like myself.  I say this as I've found out that's what Iwata wanted to do was to introduce beginning clients with the quality that Iwata so produces.

It's also a great way in luring clients to there upscale models.  I for one want a gun type trigger Iwata AB and a Custom Micron.  The last of which is there flagship model.  These AB are as good if not superior to what's on the market currently.  I went to a artist studio of which uses Iwata AB exclusively.  He even let me try them all.  All though they are all well balanced, the Custom Micron was golden.  This is what won me over as a dedicated Iwata fan.

So, is the Neo made in Taiwan?  If so, I'd love to buy a gun type trigger one for spraying primers and top coats with a HL 40% off coupon.  I just love airbrushes like women love high heelsSmile

Chrisk-k

So, is the Neo made in Taiwan?

I believe the components are manufactured in Taiwan & the airbrushes assembled in China - the Q/C is far more stringent than on standard Chinese products & Neo's are supplied with Iwata's 5 year warranty.

The trigger action Neo TRN1 & TRN2 are both double action or rather "continuous double action" - the first portion of trigger pull provides air & the rest of the trigger pull provides increasing paint flow the further back the trigger is pulled (same fashion as the rest of the Iwata pistol trigger airbrushes).

I've been interested the TRN since I read Skinner's review at FSM.

Any idea when that was, Chris? I'm interested and must have missed the review.

Thank you, Chris. A good read, and answered my questions about the 2 TRN's.

Dunno how I missed it.
