paint problem
Posted by bugdry on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 11:38 AM

Hey guys,  I am new on here and finally getting back to model building.  Its been years since i made them.  Anyways a problem i am having is that i am painting a subaru in tamiya mica blue.  WHile doing the underside of the car i slopped some of the aluminum onto the nice mica blue i had already painted.  Is there a paint colour that i can use to hand brush that will match the mica blue?  Otherwise i will be stuck with spraying a bunch of paint on a board and trying to get it off that with a paint brush.

Wait.. you decided to paint your kit after you had it assembled? Wouldn't have been easier to paint the undersides and body separately? That's what most folks do anyways.

Or you should have masked the areas to prevent paint from overlapping onto the blue. Ah well, live and learn.....

Mask off the surrounding area and spray over the part that has the wrong color error.

Is the spill an enamel or acrylic paint? Assuming that you used Tamiya Mica Blue spray, it's a lacquer paint and if your spill is an acrylic, it should be no problem to clean it off using alcohol.

However, it would be problematic if it's an enamel based paint.

If you mask and respray, mask along panel lines, paint only the affected area (door, fender, whatever).  Use a good masking tape from hobby shop- Tamiya tapes are super-good.
