Think 1:1 scale. That is paint the car as a autobody shop would paint a real car. Follow the same steps as they would. You don't need to purchase any expensive polishing sets. Just visit your local drug store and pick up some fingernail polishing sticks. Use the course section then the finer section along with a little water with a drop of dishsoap in it to help pick up and hold the dust. Rinse well and repeat.

1. Surface preparation...make it as smooth as you can.
2. Regardless of what paint you use, if it isn't glossy enough, try spraying clear Future over it. It will shine!!!
