Tinting Canopies
Posted by rodc on Monday, June 22, 2009 8:39 PM

I'm buliding an EA-6B Prowler and from some of the pics I have downloaded from the net, the canopy appears to have a gold metallic tint.  I have made a very dilute mixture of gold and aluminum metallic with lots of thinner and have sprayed the inside of the canopies with the outside surfaces taped to keep the spray off.  Not sure if it will work or not but I'd be interested in hearing of other techniques.

Tamiya makes clear tinting paints in a variety of colors, although I don't know about metallic gold.  I used their green tint for the upper windows of a Huey.  I found it worked best when I mixed it with Future, essentially using the Future as though it were thinner, and spraying the Future/Green Tint mixture.  Came out really nice with no fogging of loss of clarity.
