Painting sliver
Posted by zapme on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 6:03 AM

Hi everyone,

Just looking for a little advise on spraying silver (all enamel brands). My problem is when masking the sliver then removing the mask it always tends to take some of the paint with it. I've tried to seal it with laquer varnish, I'm using low tack mask (Tamiya) and have made that even less tackier. I have even let the paint dry for 48-72hrs. Any advise would be much apreciated.

 Cheers Leo

The only thing I have found for masking silver paint is "post-it" notes. It is great on flat surfaces, but on curves it will not stick, you'll have to use masking tape on top of the post-its, kinda taping them together, to hold them in place.

Depends on what paint you're using. Some NMF paints are very fragile.

You won't have this problem with Alclad metallics.

No doubt, Alclad products are the ones you need. I had the same problem as you when I first started model kits and since I started using Alclad, I haven't any problem at all.

Leo:

Before trying the Alclad (which I use all  the time, by the way) try this simpler solution:

1. Remove the masking tape much sooner than 24 hours...the sooner the better.

2. I don't know how you spray, but possibly you are spraying to thick of a coat. Again, just a thought,
