Removing paint from white metal
Posted by smiddit on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 4:18 PM

I'm thinking about purchasing the Andrea Miniatures German Sniper figure as a project to work on. Never worked with white metal castings before and wondered how easy/difficult it is to remove paint in case of mistakes?

On a side note has anyone done a WIP of this kit as I think it's absolutely stunning? If anyone knows of any links please let me know.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Brian.

I have never worked with white metal but I would suppose Super Clean degreaser or Easy-Off oven cleaner would remove paint from it just as it does on plastic.

If it's white metal you could use Lacquer thinner.  It's more agressive than superclean or oven cleaner.  If it's baked on enamel powder you can't remove it with anything except sand paper.

I second Easy off Oven cleaner.  I painted a lot of reaper minis in my day.  Just wear gloves as it will eat skin as well.
